away – “send me away”

send me away
on paper wings

send me away
as day breaks sky

send me away
with songs to sing

send me away
with a smile on my face
with eyes shut in peace
with melodies that play
and swell far and wide

send me away
in a boat made of wood
flowers in my fingers
and a life understood
with a smile that lingers
that tells of the good

yes, the good life i’ve lived
as night darkens day
send me away,
send me far, far away.

For this week’s Poetry Rehab 101: “away“. Hey, my poem this week isn’t actually dark and dreary! I suppose I’m broadening my horizons, or whatever.
